The article I read started off with giving an explanation of what an annotated bibliography actually is. Basically I took it to be a more in-depth look at the references the researcher uses in the research writing. The article said that while there isn’t any certain length your brief summary of the citation has to be, it should be no less than a sentence and no more than 150 words. Basically he said what Marlen did when he told our class to make these as long as they have to be. The summary should include the main point of the article that was cited, the authors intended audience, and the impression the article made on the researcher (me).

How can an annotated bibliography help you write the intro and lit review sections in your own paper?

I think that the annotated bibliography directly helps with the intro and lit review. Having the annotated bibliography gives the researcher an easier way to look back and collect the main points of the sources gathered. This way the researcher would not have to go back and read the whole article over and over again to relate the information to the researcher’s topic.

How do you know if your sources from your anno bib are reliable, valid, timely, and unbiased?

I know the sources are reliable because earlier in the blogs I learned how to critically analyze my sources. I think by doing this you immediately know which sources to use for your Anno. Bib., and which ones to throw out.

ANNO BIB:

The Uniform: A Sociological Perspective : This article goes through different aspects of the social characteristics of a person in uniform. The authors covers things such as the acceptance, and rejection of the uniform, the uniform and its function in the control of social interaction, how the uniform reveals and conceals status, and the uniform as a certificate of legitimacy. I think the authors intended audience is uniform wearers, because most of the things he says about them are good. The impression that this article made on me was that a uniform is something I would like to wear due to the amount of social persona it implies.

Cads, Dads, and Magazines: Women’s Sexual Preferences and Articles about Sex and Relationships:   This article looks to the media’s effect on women, and how they perceive men. The article states that woman who tend to read more recreational types of articles in magazines tend to be more attached to men who exhibit lack of inhibitions, physical attractiveness, and have more sexual experience. On the other hand woman who read articles more based on a relational account of sex look for men who exhibit relational frame, emotional stability, and who are more romantic. I think that the targeted audience of this study is more for college aged women. The impression I got from this article was that the media can subconsciously play a role in how we act sexually, and perceive who we want to have sex with.

Mate Attraction, Retention, and Expulsion : This article analyzes what different types of men and women look for in short/long-term relationships. It also goes through what variables increase how we as sexes retain, and end our relationships. The article explains that when choosing a mate for a short-term relationship woman will tend to look for a more attractive man, and when looking for a long-term mate financial recourses also play a part. The article also explains that a woman will more likely want to retain a mate if she had put a lot of effort into the relationship. I believe this article is meant to be read by people who are involved in fields such as sociology, and psychology. My impression of the article is that short-term relationships are more likely to be purely sexual, and require a more physically attractive mate, while long-term relationships are more  non sexually oriented, and focus more on being kind, and intelligent.

Differentiating Highly Sexual Woman from Less Sexual Woman: This article goes through the differences highly sexual women have with less sexual woman. It goes through a number of categories in which a woman is more likely to do or feel based on how sexually active they are. Studies showed that women who were more sexual tended to be more self-confident about themselves, and their sexual ability. They also showed that women who are more sexually active tend to masturbate more often than those who did not. The studies also showed that women who were highly sexually active thought that sex was a major component in their lives. I beleive the target audience would again be people in psychology/sociology fields. The impression this article put on me was that the women who are more sexually active tend to see it as something that is a huge part of their life, while women who aren’t as sexually active tend to be more interested in a man to find love.

Narratives of Desire in Mid-Age Woman With and Without Arousal Difficulties. Journal of Sex Research:  This article discussed what women desire in a sexual partner. It deals with a wide range of women, and how the feeling of desire changes with age. The article found that 35 percent of younger women desire love, and emotional intimacy , 33 percent desired closeness, 12 percent desired romance, and 12 percent desired satisfaction. I beleive the intended audience is for sexual therapists. My impression of the article was that more women tend to desire men who promote more relational goals, while some merely desire sex. I think the two correlate although because love, and emotional intimacy are closely linked to sex.
